Cadets Weekend 2

Further to our great start on the first day our Wigan cadets took another step closer to top position by gaining some great results.

In our first match v Rhyl a draw of 3-3 could have been 5-1 in our favour with both Frankie and Harvey losing close in the fifth games, Harvey having a battle and attacking well from both sides with a 10-9 lead in the 4th game against the unbeaten Rhyl No.1 and unlucky to lose at juice in the final game.

Frankie struggled to get to the finish line with a change of tactics from the Rhyl player, having already beaten their no.2 on previous occasions but still serving well and playing great strength on the forehand side. Sam Talbot contributed a fine win over an awkward left hander again playing sizzling back hands in attack giving wigan the 3-3 draw. In match 2 beating Stockport ‘C’ 5-1 was just what we needed to go into the afternoon to play league leaders Stockport B.

Both Cameron and David join the team for the afternoon session taking a 4-2 win over a 2 man Stockpot ‘B’ with Cameron winning a valuable match and David unlucky to win his match Frankie also winning to keep the team ahead. For the final match the previously playing in the 1st division player joined the Halton team who proved just just too strong for our Wigan players, Harvey again losing out in the fifth game to him but Cameron keeping the team alive strikes another win on the board with a final score of 4-2 to Halton, David unlucky to gain points in this match but the effort of 100% was never in question.

These are fantastic results and with another 2 days of games ahead we need to train hard as to improve on service, attacking and temperament, we want to improve ready for the next leg, I believe we have a real chance of winning the title so keep up the good work team you’re doing a great job yourselves and the club.

Regards

Rick
